Short description
The Appenzell – St. Gallen – Trogen route was the largest and most important infrastructure project undertaken by Appenzell Railways. This involved the removal of the last rack section on the Appenzell – Gais – St. Gallen line. Speeds were also increased, removing any obstacles to an expansion of the service offering. So that this goal could be achieved, the old sections between St. Gallen Goods Station and the Riethüsli stop first had to be dismantled and replaced by a tunnel with a length of approximately 700 m and a gradient of 80‰. At the same time, the Lustmühle crossing point was extended.
